One person died and 19 others were injured in a road accident on Wednesday morning at Wanjii along the Murang’a–Kenol Road. The deceased, a 45-year-old Matatu conductor, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Murang’a Level Five Hospital.
Twelve adults and seven minors, all with soft tissue injuries, are being treated at the same hospital. The body of the conductor was moved to the mortuary for a post-mortem.
Traffic Enforcement Officer Stephen Wainaina said the accident occurred when the Matatu, belonging to Kigumo Sacco, lost control after its front left tyre burst. The vehicle veered off the road and overturned.
The police have launched an investigation, and traffic on the busy highway has been temporarily disrupted.
