The Penang state government anticipates recording a budget surplus this year, with expectations of exceeding one billion ringgit in revenue for the first time since 2016. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow reported that revenue collection had already reached 924.1 million ringgit, surpassing the full-year target set for 2025.
He credited the strong financial performance to effective management, enhanced revenue collection, and prudent fiscal planning. This approach has also enabled the state to propose a significantly reduced deficit of just 19.91 million ringgit for the 2026 budget.
