PM Modi inaugurates Navi Mumbai International Airport, metro line

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that the Navi Mumbai International Airport represents a vision of a developed India, with its design inspired by the lotus and its location on land linked to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Speaking at the inauguration of the airport’s first phase, Modi highlighted the role the new airport will play in strengthening regional and global connectivity and easing congestion at Mumbai’s existing international airport. He stated that the facility would boost opportunities for farmers by connecting them to markets in Europe and the Middle East.

The prime minister noted that the opening of new airports and the UDAN scheme have made air travel accessible and affordable, with India now having over 160 airports compared to 74 in 2014. Modi also inaugurated Mumbai Metro Line 3, the city’s first fully underground metro, which he described as a major advancement for commuters and infrastructure. He reiterated the government’s focus on uplifting poor, middle-class, and neo-middle-class families, emphasizing that infrastructure projects contribute to the nation’s strength. Modi mentioned other major transportation initiatives and pointed to rising consumer confidence reflected in record Navaratri sales.
