Qualcomm may still tap Samsung for cheaper Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2

Samsung continues manufacturing Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 processor despite earlier reports suggesting the partnership had ended. Digital Chat Station reports the Korean manufacturer remains involved with the project codenamed Kaanapali S. The collaboration centers on Samsung's 2nm GAA manufacturing process, which offers potential cost advantages over competitor alternatives. Samsung provides Qualcomm with competitive pricing to establish trust and secure future business relationships. This strategy helps Samsung challenge TSMC's market dominance in advanced semiconductor production.

Qualcomm maintains its dual-sourcing approach to balance manufacturing costs and supply chain risks. The company anticipates significant price increases when TSMC's 2nm production reaches full capacity next year. Samsung's version may help offset these expected cost pressures for mobile device manufacturers. Industry analysts suggest both Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 and MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 will maintain similar pricing to current flagship processors. Future Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 3 development may feature multiple manufacturing partners to manage rising production expenses effectively.
