President Trump says he helped make peace between two African countries that have fought for years. He worked with his Secretary of State Marco Rubio to bring Congo and Rwanda together for talks. Trump posted on social media that representatives from both nations will come to Washington on Monday to sign papers. He called this a great day for Africa and the whole world. Trump also said he probably will not win a Nobel Peace Prize for his work.
The two countries have had serious problems since 1994 when terrible violence happened in Rwanda. Many people fled to eastern Congo after that violence ended. Rwanda keeps saying that Congo hides rebel fighters who took part in the killings. Congo and United Nations investigators say Rwanda helps a rebel group called M23 that has taken land and hurt people.
The M23 rebels became active again in 2022 and forced more than one million people to leave their homes. Other African countries like Angola tried to help solve the fighting but could not make it stop. American and European leaders have asked both sides to talk instead of fight. This new peace deal that Trump arranged could be very important for ending the conflict.
