Trump makes Netanyahu apologize to Qatar for peace deal

President Donald Trump presented a 20-point peace proposal for Gaza during his Monday meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. Netanyahu telephoned Qatar's leader from the Oval Office to apologize for an earlier Israeli strike on Doha that killed Hamas operatives and a Qatari security officer. The strike prompted a United Nations Security Council resolution that the United States supported.

World leaders welcomed the American initiative as Britain, Australia, Canada, and France recognized Palestinian statehood. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Tuesday that the framework provides a viable path toward regional stability and prosperity. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged Hamas to accept the terms and release hostages.

Hamas indicated it would respond within several days after Trump set a deadline. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed support for the diplomatic effort on social media. Trump criticized Netanyahu for rejecting ceasefire calls, but has not matched his sharp condemnation of Russian military actions in Ukraine.
