Vijay faces outrage as Karur rally stampede kills 39

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay declared financial assistance for victims of a deadly stampede during his political rally in Karur. The actor-turned-politician pledged 20 lakh rupees to each bereaved family and two lakh rupees to injured survivors. Thirty-nine people died and more than 80 sustained injuries when crowds surged at his campaign event in Velusamypuram.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin visited hospitalized victims and announced a judicial investigation led by retired High Court Justice Aruna Jagadeesan. The state government approved 10 lakh rupees for each deceased victim's family and one lakh rupees for injured attendees. Opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami criticized security arrangements at the gathering. Police registered cases while authorities examine crowd control failures that caused Tamil Nadu's deadliest political rally tragedy.
