Zimbabwe's Career Plan to Crush Youth Job Blues

Zimbabwe works to connect schools with jobs through a new career guidance program. The Ministry of Skills Audit and Development leads the effort to help students find work after graduation. Government officials brought together teachers, business leaders and community groups for planning sessions. The workshop focused on making education match what employers need from workers. Leaders want to create clear paths from classrooms to careers across the country.

Professor Paul Mavima runs the skills ministry and spoke about changing job markets. He said technology and new industries require different worker skills than before. Young people need guidance to choose careers that match their talents and national needs. Many students leave school without knowing what jobs exist or how to find them. Rural students face the biggest challenges because career services reach them less often.

The current system leaves gaps between what schools teach and what companies want. Many young people cannot find jobs because their skills do not match available positions. Career guidance services work poorly outside major cities and help few students. The new policy aims to fix these problems by putting guidance programs throughout the education system. Officials want to coordinate efforts between schools, employers and government agencies to serve students better.
