Bigboy Nampungo Gets 60 Years for Wild Robbery Raid

A judge sentenced Bigboy Nampungo to 60 years behind bars after he robbed the family of businessman Wicknell Chivayo. The 27-year-old from Chitungwiza admitted guilt for six armed robbery charges. He stole $74,000 cash plus valuables from Chivayo's relatives at their Marondera farm. The court decided Nampungo will actually spend 30 years locked up because half his punishment runs at the same time.

Eight other men allegedly helped Nampungo but claim they did nothing wrong. Their names are Garikai Shangwa, Temptation Dinhidza, Arnold Tafirei, Tawanda Mushayatu, Mike Mhaka, Maramba Vhiya and Takudzwa Maisvoreva. The court told these men to come back on April 10. Nampungo told the truth about robbing six different people at Alpha and Omega Farm last month.

The robbery happened early morning on March 18 around 1 AM. Nampungo carried weapons with his friends, including three rifles, two pistols, cutters, machetes, and metal bars. They beat up security guard Mabunhu with iron bars and kicks. They tied his hands and legs with cable ties before attacking more guards named Rusike and Zhakata.

The robbers left some guards tied up under watch and then broke into the main house. They cut through security screens and forced doors open. Gerald gave them $18,000 cash, a loaded pistol, and two phones when they threatened him. They made Vimbai give them $1,100, a safe key, and her Samsung phone. She opened the safe, where they took another $55,000 in cash. Someone named Elphas Maruta tried stopping them by shooting twice, but the robbers fired back three times before running away.
