Driver shot dead while trying to bust out

Police shot a Chikwawa District Council driver who tried running away from officers. Solomon Kamunda died from injuries after attempting to escape during an investigation. Authorities arrested the 48-year-old last Thursday because they believed he participated in several robberies throughout Blantyre and neighboring districts.

Law enforcement first took Kamunda to Blantyre for questioning. They later brought him back to Chikwawa on Sunday to help with additional detective work. Officers hoped he would assist them with finding other suspects. The situation turned deadly when Kamunda made his escape attempt.

Medical staff at Chikwawa Hospital initially treated Kamunda before transferring him to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. His condition worsened at the larger medical facility. Edward Kabango, spokesperson for South East police, confirmed these details to reporters.

Kamunda drove a Land Cruiser with license plate MG518AP for his job. He came from Chikhambi village, located within Traditional Authority Kasisi boundaries. His death raises questions about police procedures during suspect transport and custody.
