ICT ministry kicks off major strategic review

Zimbabwe's information technology ministry has launched a comprehensive planning review to match its operations with the second National Development Strategy and Vision 2030 targets. ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera told officials at a workshop in Kariba on Wednesday that the exercise will assess achievements and shortcomings from the first strategy period that ends this year. The ministry aims to coordinate its programs with broader digital frameworks from the Southern African Development Community, African Union and United Nations.

The three-day gathering ended on Thursday, producing seven planning documents covering performance measures and leadership contracts for 2026. Mavetera stressed that successful implementation depends on dedicated staff and clear responsibility standards rather than written plans alone. The ministry will incorporate digital identification systems, electronic payment platforms and online travel documents into future initiatives to expand access across the population. Officials expect the updated framework to strengthen the country's technology sector growth.
