Kadoma Sand Truck Driver Jumps Clear as Train Derails

A truck driver and his friend leaped from their moving vehicle before it crashed into a train Wednesday night. The truck carried sand and hit the train near Kadoma around midnight. National Railways of Zimbabwe said the driver lost control at a road crossing. The crash knocked two train cars off the tracks. Both men went to the hospital, and the doctors released them the same night.

This marks the third vehicle crash with trains across Zimbabwe during the past two weeks. Railway officials ask all drivers to use extra care near train crossings. They warn people not to drive broken vehicles near railway lines. The truck accident happened at 11:50 PM on a busy road. Emergency workers cleaned up the mess and reopened the crossing.

Earlier this month, a Honda car with six men crashed into a train on Chiremba Road in Harare. That accident happened at 1 AM, and all six passengers suffered moderate injuries. Police officers also crashed their vehicle into a train in Gweru on May 13. The two officers survived with minor cuts and bruises. Their damaged police truck could not be repaired after the collision.
