Myanmar police seize K14B in drugs in Kalay

Police in Myanmar seized more than 6.5 million stimulant tablets and nearly 39 kilograms of heroin valued at over K14 billion in Kalay Township. Officers stopped a Forland vehicle driven by Nyein Chan Maung, also known as Kalar Lay, at 5:30 pm on 14 September and found the tablets inside.

Investigators later arrested Htoo Aung Kyaw on 19 September for helping move the drugs from Mongyai Township in northern Shan State to Kalay. Acting on that information, officers stopped another Forland driven by Kyaw Htay at 4:30 pm on 13 October in Kalay and seized 29.23 kilograms of heroin. They also detained Paung Shan Hauk, also called Ko Chin, who had bought the heroin, along with Li Lay in Kalay and Soe Myint, also known as Ka Larlay, in Lashio Township. Police have charged those arrested and continue to pursue others linked to the case.
