Police officers in Balaka district arrested two people for having marijuana without proper permits. The arrests happened on June 19th at two different trading centers called Likudzi and Mkando. Inspector Gladson M'bumpha told reporters about the case from his office at Balaka Police Station.
Officers found Malita Panyasa age 47 with 12 rolled marijuana cigarettes and loose cannabis plants inside her shop. She had no license to sell the drugs legally. Daniel Mkwatulo age 35 also got caught with illegal substances at his store.
Police discovered Mkwatulo had a black plastic bag, a full sack of cannabis plants, and 22 twisted marijuana cigarettes. He could not show officers any permit that allowed him to have these drugs. Both suspects operated their businesses without following the law.
The two accused people will face a judge after experts test their seized drugs. Researchers must confirm what type of substances police found during the raids. Court dates will be set once laboratory workers finish checking the evidence.
Both trading centers saw police activity as officers searched for illegal drug sales. The arrests show authorities continue watching for people who break marijuana possession laws in the district.
