US and Bangladesh officials in secret Washington DC tariff showdown

Bangladesh and America kicked off major trade talks in Washington DC on Wednesday. The first day of negotiations covered almost every part of the business relationship between both countries. Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin flew to the US capital to lead the Bangladesh team. National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman and ICT expert Faiz Ahmed Tayeb joined the meeting through video calls from Dhaka. Senior officials from the commerce ministry also attended the crucial discussions.

American representatives came from agriculture, energy, commerce and copyright departments for the high-stakes meeting. Both sides tackled key trade issues that affect millions of workers and businesses. The talks will continue on Thursday night at 9pm Bangladesh time. Friday marks the final day of these important negotiations.

The three-day summit represents the second round of tariff discussions between the two nations. Officials described the talks as very comprehensive and detailed. Bangladesh hopes to protect its export industries while America wants better trade terms. The outcome could change how both countries do business together. Trade experts watch closely as the talks move toward their conclusion.
