Carling Black Label ZTISU Games begin in Bulawayo

Student athletes from across Zimbabwe gather for four days of sports competition starting today. The 2025 Carling Black Label Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union Games take place at multiple venues around Bulawayo. Hundreds of competitors represent 41 colleges and universities during the annual event. White City Stadium hosts the official opening ceremony and athletics events. The games celebrate talent from technical schools, teacher training colleges and universities.

Edward Chekure leads ZTISU as president and oversees the national competition. Three separate groups send their best athletes to compete for medals and recognition. The Technical Education Sports Association brings 12 schools to the games. Teacher training colleges send representatives through their 14-member association. Universities participate through their 15-institution sports group.

Athletes compete across many different sports during the four-day festival. Men and women take part separately for most events at venues throughout the city. Football, basketball, volleyball and netball draw large crowds of spectators. Track and field events showcase speed and strength at White City Stadium. Chess, darts and pool test mental skills alongside physical competitions.

Paralympic athletes receive equal treatment and proper classification for fair competition. Goalball, five-a-side football and seven-a-side events highlight disabled sports. Trained professionals ensure all para-athletes compete at appropriate skill levels. The games rotate between cities each year with different sub-associations serving as hosts. Bulawayo takes over hosting duties from Harare after the 2024 competition.
