What is the best way to mix an 808 and kick bass drum?

What is the optimal methodology for integrating kicks and 808s into a musical composition?

Set the kick to -12 dBFS. Now, turn up the 808's volume. When you hear the 808, stop. Don't drown the kick. If the 808 is too loud, do one of the following: it needs processing with a spectral effect or a different sample. Also try to reverse the polarity of the kick drum while it's playing with the 808 bass. Listen to see which sounds better. Use a sidechain to lower the 808 bass or the whole volume to an appropriate level.

Use dynamic range sidechain compression and make sure they're both (i.e., the kick and 808) perfectly lined up on the grid so that there's phase alignment.

You might want to cut up to -3 db of 50 hertz from the kick and boost the same on the 808. Also, cut up to -3 db of 100 hertz on the 808 and boost the same on the kick.
