The process of major record companies poaching artists from Indie labels is simply derived from the same old same strategy of warfare.

Lucifer's blueprint of divide and conquer he implemented in the Garden of Eden (Paradise). It works like a charm especially if you are dealing with individuals who are still green in the industry.

Can you hexpagorate that?

If a major record label sees potential in a buzzing artist signed to an Indie label or a music production company i.e. on the basis of a production deal or whatever.

They often try to sell the idea of an artist being held captive because of unconscionable record contract terms. Sometimes they might even use their own corporate entertainment lawyers to represent the target artist.

In addition given that today we now have social media -- a major record company will also egg on an artist to go live on Instagram, Facebook, etc talmbout how their Indie label isn't paying them enough money and all that jazz.

Just remember it's not only major record labels who poach artists from small music companies.

On the other hand, you also have got artist management companies who do literary the same thing by trying to convince an artist how they can get them better endorsement deals, sponsorship, etc.

In the music business, the act of major record company poaching an artist from an independent record company is what you'd call a hostile takeover.

This happens even in other industries whether it's the film business, tech industry, fashion industry, commercial or investment banking industry, etc you name it.

There is nothing new under the sun.

Can you expagorate on that?

Generally, the bigger companies in the music industry will go as far as they can to plant seeds of animosity between the management of an independent record label and their artist.

So that an artist will start thinking of other options e.g. leaving in search of greener pastures or to perhaps renegotiate their current record contract so that they can bounce early.

The main mistake often made by artists who aren't familiar with the business of music is thinking they will get a much better deal if they sign with a bigger music firm only to find out the new contract actually has hidden slave clauses which are far worse than the previous situation.
