In the music business, the act of major record company poaching an artist from an independent record company is what you'd call a hostile takeover.
This happens even in other industries whether it's the film business, tech industry, fashion industry, commercial or investment banking industry, etc you name it.
There is nothing new under the sun.
Can you expagorate on that?
Generally, the bigger companies in the music industry will go as far as they can to plant seeds of animosity between the management of an independent record label and their artist.
So that an artist will start thinking of other options e.g. leaving in search of greener pastures or to perhaps renegotiate their current record contract so that they can bounce early.
The main mistake often made by artists who aren't familiar with the business of music is thinking they will get a much better deal if they sign with a bigger music firm only to find out the new contract actually has hidden slave clauses which are far worse than the previous situation.
