Deputy governor slaps foreign minister at Bauchi palace

A shocking scene unfolded at Bauchi Emir's Palace when Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau reportedly slapped Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar during a heated argument. The clash happened at former Governor Mohammed Abubakar's turbaning ceremony, which doubled as his daughter Khadija's wedding. People who saw the incident said Tuggar made negative remarks about the current state government that angered the deputy governor. Vice President Kashim Shettima had to step in quickly to stop the situation from becoming worse.

The fight stems from ongoing political tensions between Tuggar and Governor Bala Mohammed's administration. Tuggar previously accused the governor of using tax reforms to launch a presidential campaign for 2027. The governor's team fired back through Chief of Staff Aminu Gamawa, who called Tuggar's comments "opportunistic" and claimed the minister wants to run for governor himself. Gamawa also criticized Tuggar's performance in foreign affairs and his absence from local politics.

Neither the state government nor the Foreign Affairs Ministry has made an official statement about what happened. Many important politicians attended the event, including Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and other high-ranking officials.
