Uganda People's Defence Forces chief Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba held discussions with MONUSCO Force Commander Lt Gen Ulisses De Mesquita Gomes at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe. The meeting focused on strengthening security coordination in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, where Ugandan troops are conducting operations against the Allied Democratic Forces and other armed groups.
De Mesquita Gomes recognized Ugandan military contributions to regional stability and emphasized the need for synchronized cooperation and intelligence exchange between peacekeeping forces. Through Operation Shujaa, a joint effort with Congolese armed forces, the campaign has significantly weakened terrorist organizations operating in the region.
Both delegations pledged to enhance coordination between their respective forces to combat armed groups and advance stability across eastern Congo. Senior officers from MONUSCO and UPDF, including commanders of land forces and defense intelligence officials, participated in the security talks.
