Why is Sungura music less popular than both Zimdancehall and Zim hip-hop?

Has sungura music been on the decline stage since both Zimdancehall music and Zim hip-hop music have a huge listening audience in Zimbabwe's music industry?

Music is like fashion, there will always be new trends coming in and some trends phasing out. You just can't help it.

Recording artists who seem to have so much longevity in the music business are the ones who don't remain fixed in a particular trend.

What they seem to do is notice the unique selling proposition of an incoming trend then hop on it before everyone catches up.

Many emerging Zim artists are either into Afropop music, Zimdancehall or Zim Hip Hop.

On top of that, new artists can't even play a single instrument but they are familiar with music production software.

So the downside to only be good with music production software is detrimental to making Sungura songs since it's a genre of Zimbabwean music that requires good musicianship to actually make something listenable.

You can't just open your Digital Audio Workstation and make Sungura music without understanding music theory like the back of your hand. The same applies to Afro Jazz music.

Young upcoming Zim artists don't have that patience they want quick results with little to less effort.

The funny thing is when most people mention Sungura music the first thing that comes to their minds are Alick Macheso songs and that's about it.

With Zimdancehall or Zim Hip Hop music it's different. People are more familiar with many artists and songs.

I don't see the point of the debating between Sungura vs Zimdancehall music in terms of which genre of music is popular in Zimbabwe because that goes without saying, doesn't it?

I mean young ghetto youths in high-density areas don't wanna hear Sungura music. They wanna listen to the latest Zimdancehall songs. That's what they relate to the most.

There are other Sungura musicians besides Alick Macheso though.

Yes, that's true except people aren't gonna spend most of their time searching for latest Sungura songs when Sungura music isn't currently a genre with the biggest market share in Zimbabwe's music industry.

Still that ain't gonna change the facts. Zimdancehall music is loved by many people more than Sungura music.

Additionally all you just have to ask is when was the last time Sungura videos were trending in Zimbabwe?

What about the comparison of relevancy between Sungura artists vs Zimdancehall artists?

It's all self-explanatory.

There is not really much to say.

Even Zimdancehall mixtapes receive more recognition than Sungura mixtapes.

Suppose a fusion of Zimdancehall and Sungura music might help to revive the sound of Sungura to the younger generation.

The same way in Rap music sampling old Soul records can make some young listeners wanna explore the vintage sound even further than the short interpolations they hear via the means of sampling.

What do you suggest Sungura artists should have done during the rise of Zimdancehall music in Zimbabwe?

Definitely to feature Zimdancehall artists on their Sungura songs for the purpose of hyping up other future releases while at the same time tapping into that Zimdancehall market whereby they would also get featured on a Zimdancehall riddim or something.

What if is a Sungura music artist actually hates the sound of Zimdancehall?
