As time goes on both independent and major record labels, will they still be useful for the next generation of music artists?

It's becoming easier and easier for recording artists to release their music and also to promote their songs on sosho media. Therefore, isn't this likely to render record companies useless?

Just because a music band/artist can get their music on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and Amazon music isn't something that guarantees longevity in the music business let alone a factor that can make them a household name.

What about networking and all that showbiz politics within the industry itself? Have you thought about that?

Record companies are gonna be around for eons upon eons, mate.

I don't understand why y'all oans think they will go out of business anytime soon or in future for that matter.

Oan, it takes money to make money and most musicians start from the bottom without connections and capital (financial resources) to promote their music on DSPs, sosho media platforms, and other reputable online publications.

Speaking of which, many record labels pay huge sums of money in marketing campaigns, for example, to generate more first-day views via Google Ads, YouTube Advertising, IG, influential bloggers, etc.

A broke artist still living in his parent's basement can never compete with that no matter how talented they are. Brand value is more important than skill after all.

Unless an artist is a serious growth hacker, chances of making it big in the recording industry are next to none.

I mean look at all A-list singers, rappers, songwriters, and music producers they are one way or the other affiliated with either indie/major labels and music publishers.

Why? Well, because the recording industry just like any other industry with potential to generate billions of dollars in revenue will always have multi-national corporations coming in to grab it by the balls -- and that's eggzactly what happened to it, now here we are!

You are right. Oans need to know the recording industry is more than just firing up your DAW making beats, recording vocals, rendering, uploading to YouTube and Soundcloud, etc.

Running a modern business means you are gonna have to deal with the politics involved in whatever industry be it the music industry, film business, you name it.

Unfortunately, even if some artists might have resources to start their own record label or music publishing company chances are they will fail because they probably lack the music business acumen to maneuver themselves in an industry full of cutthroat capitalists who will not hesitate to wage war if an entity tries to mess up their market share.

It sure sounds like y'all oans are killjoy pessimists. ?

You can conclude to that if you want. However, in 3000 A.D. major record labels will still be in business! ?

I tell you what, the music industry is an industry that should be torn down and rebuilt otherwise the game will always be in the same corporate hands with less room for independent entities or whatever.

I mean just look at how much influence the majors have on media outlets compared to indies or artists signed to themselves. Need I say more?
