When it comes to record sales in Zimbabwe, that goes without saying. You seriously don’t have to ask, do you? Most music fans in Zimbabwe are very reluctant to spend money to support artists in terms of purchasing music whether via a physical medium or digital downloads.

The culture of appreciating art and respecting intellectual property rights has been a foreign concept for a very long time such that the thought of supporting Zim artists is a subject one is often ridiculed by his colleagues as an act of wasting money.

Nonetheless, the main source of income for Zim artists turns out to be:
  • Live performances (e.g., shows & concerts)
  • Club performances (or club appearances)
  • Private functions (e.g., weddings, parties, corporate events, etc)
  • Sponsorship & Endorsements (e.g., one-off payments from business persons & prominent socialites)
Best believe the day some Zim artists don’t get booked for a show is the day they don’t eat specifically from the sweat of producing and releasing their music. The good thing is that individuals can’t pirate a show though. So that’s that.
