What's the latest news about Zimbabwean movies and dramas?

The current state of the film industry in Zimbabwe is all sad news and a common case of how economic hardship can make things difficult especially for new filmmakers in the business.

So the run of the mill at the moment in regards to filming in Zimbabwe is mostly about short comedy skits which people then proceed to monetize on YouTube.

I doubt if there are any Zimbabwean movies on Netflix because Netflix might have some quality requirements put in place.

You are better off searching for Zimbabwean movies on YouTube than searching for Zim Films on Netflix.

On YouTube, you will actually find some of the old stuff too.

You are right for bringing up that point about DSPs being beneficial to local Zimbabwe filmmakers.

However, internet data bundles are not affordable in Zimbabwe and due to economic factors streaming movies is a luxury in Zimbabwe which many citizens can't afford at the moment.

Citizens in Zimbabwe will rather budget money for food, school fees, emergency and when all that is taken into consideration there won't be enough money left for entertainment. Except for people who are rich and live in -- dale, dale areas.

Internet data is VERY expensive in Zimbabwe. So I am afraid what you are saying is currently not possible with the status quo.

It depends on the nature of the film or comedy.

The best approach to go around this in Zimbabwe is to entirely avoid anything that can be interpreted as against the current establishment.

Notable Zim comedians Gonyeti and Maggie of Bustop TV experienced this.

I am sure they can educate more entertainers in Zimbabwe about how that will play around if you decide to take that route of provoking the powers-that-be.

As long as the content local Zimbabwean filmmakers produce doesn't result in any form of castigating towards the ruling party there won't be complications.

Neither is Zanu PF nor MDC political party holding back filmmakers from creating new content. They can freely do so in Zimbabwe.

But there is a difference in trying to be a politician and being an actor or a comedian.
